David and Jeannetta Kurth

David & Jeannetta Kurth

We are transplants from Portland, Oregon. We came to Stehekin with our 13 year old daughter and 15 year old son in 1993 so our daughter could attend the extraordinary Stehekin School for her eighth grade year and experience a world unlike any she had known, and our son could fulfill his dream of working a summer at the Bakery. It was an eighteen month sabbatical that never ended. We have now been here 30 years! Employment when we came was with the Stehekin Valley Ranch. David drove bus and did maintenance and building projects for the Ranch for two years, and Jeannetta was a cook there for ten years, along with becoming the trainer of the Norwegian Fjord horses and riding instructor for Cascade Corrals until about 2009. David started a business called Stehekin Home Services and did remodeling and handyman jobs throughout the valley for 23 years, along with being the maintenance man and custodian at the Stehekin School for 14 years. He is also a published poet. Jeannetta took advantage of a year round position with the National Park Service from which she retired after 12 years.

We are excited to have purchased and remodeled the cabin next door to our home and look forward to welcoming adventurers to the Stehekin Valley
